Leave it to Hollywood to have its finger on the pulse of what’s popular in America. Usually, if there is a new “movement”, celebs jump right on the bandwagon because they know it will keep them popular and relevant. So, I decided to do a little research to see if there were any Hollywood types who really took the idea of going green seriously. After all, actions speak louder than words (or so my mom tells me).
Here are my favorite Eco-Friendly Celebrities:
Jessica is pretty popular in Hollywood right now, both in movies and on the red carpet. And while that should keep her busy enough, she is also the mom to 2 adorable kiddos. But even though she has all that on her plate, she has added entrepreneur to her resume.
Honest.com is the company Jessica helped to create in her quest for eco-friendly baby products and products for the home. While she could afford to purchase whatever she wanted, she decided to use her fortune to create a company that creates products that any mom could trust and afford. She even uses her fame to do work for the Safe Chemical Act.
Soleil Moon Frye
Who remembers Punky Brewster? Soleil is also the mother of 2 little ones and she, too, launched her own site called The Little Seed. The site sells everything from knapsacks made from hemp, to baby drinking bottles that are free from phthalates, PVC and lead.
Julia, who has enjoyed a long career but has been out of the spotlight of late, grows her own organic vegetables. According to sheknows.com, Julia wants her 3 children to know where food comes from.
In addition to organic food, Julia has just transformed her home to make it more eco-friendly. According to bambooki.com, she remodeled using solar panels, recycled tiles, sustainable harvested materials and had energy saving appliances installed.
Even if you don’t agree with her husband’s politics, you can’t discount the fact that the First Lady is making great strides in helping kids learn about eco-living. She has been seen on several talk shows showing off the organic garden she created on the South Lawn and she was recently here in the Windy City as part of her Let’s Move promotional tour.
She sure has come a long way! Nicole and her partner, Joel Madden, started the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation in 2007. They presented 100 mothers and mothers-to-be with $20,000 worth of organic products.
Other celebrities who make a concerted effort to stay green are Gwyneth Paltrow, Elizabeth Hurley, Cameron Diaz, and Jennifer Garner. I’m sure there are many others. And although being an “eco-mom” might seem hip and trendy, it’s nice to see celebrity moms who walk the talk and use their money and clout to not only go green, but teach their children to go green as well.
