My son, Levi, has formed a new habit: waking up at 4:45 a.m.

That’s early. In my mind, anything before 5 a.m. is still night time. And night time is for sleeping. Not playing. Levi, on the other hand, has decided that 4:45 is the perfect time to begin his day.

He is wrong.

I have no problem getting up in the middle of the night to comfort my babies if they’re sick or teething or they pooped. I mean, I’m not exactly stoked about it when it happens, but if they have a viable reason that they need me I have no problem taking care of them. These moments actually fill me with an amazing amount of joy…the next morning. Not joy because my sleep was interrupted, but joy because it’s fulfilling to step up to the plate and be there for your kid when they need you the most. It’s a pretty cool feeling after the delirium wears off.

I have not felt that joy when Levi wakes up before the sun. I have felt drowsy, exhausted and actually pretty angry at the situation. He didn’t know I was angry. I got all my huffing and puffing out before heading to his room. I sneak in to retrieve him from his crib prison and his little eyes light up and his little body bounces up and down. I try to keep him quiet as we shuffle out of there because he and Lillian share a room and the last thing I want is two babies up before 5 AM...Continue reading at The Mommyhood Project
