How to Make Money by Selling Your DIY Projects Online

As a stay-at-home mum, you pick up a lot of different skills. Odds are, you have a DIY or two that you are particularly good at. While these can be great around the house, you can also monetize your skills. After all, there are plenty of people who would pay good money for products they can’t create themselves.

How do you sell online, though? How do you get this process started? Don’t worry, because in this article we are going to take a look at everything you need to know to get ready and make money by selling your DIY projects online.

Make Your Projects Special

When you are creating your DIY projects, before you ever post them online, you need to make them special and personalize them. You want something for your potential buyers that they can’t find anywhere else.

You should also provide your buyers with something that they want or find useful. For instance, a buyer would find use for a homemade blanket or homemade skin care products. Alternatively, you could make interesting novelty products such as jewelry.

Consider Your Prices

Before you sell, you will want to consider the prices for your DIY. When you are setting your prices, there are a few things you will want to consider.

First, you will want to think about how much your materials cost. The most basic thing you want to cover is the prices that you pay to make your end product. For example, if you are making knitted blankets for your customers, you will want to tally up how much money you need to buy supplies such as yarn and knitting needles.

Then, you will want to consider any additional costs. Many websites that you will work with will cost you a fee or take a percentage of your sales. So, when you are coming up with costs, you will want to consider this into your fees for making your product.

Finally, you will want to consider making a profit. You can always sell your products at cost but this doesn’t benefit you very much. Instead, you will want to set the price a little higher than the cost to make your product and fees so that you make a little extra money as profit.

That being said, you need to consider what your customers are willing to pay. This might take some finesse and practice, though. You don’t want to set this price too high or people won’t pay for your product - they will go to someone else who offers the same product for a lower price. On the other hand, you won’t want to offer a price that is so low it minimizes your profit. Basically, you want to make a profit but you want to do so at a competitive price.

Be Clever with Marketing

Another important consideration is that you should think about is making your content easy to find. If your customers can’t find your products, they won’t even have the choice to buy them.

To start off, you should make sure to optimize your content for search engines. This is called search engine optimization or SEO, for short. This means that you will want to use keywords to make your content easier to find when someone searches similar content on a search engine such as Google. There are some more nuances to optimizing your content that you will need to brush up on as you go along if you want to make the most of your content.

You should also advertise your content. Anymore, though, you don’t always have to spend money to advertise your content. One of the best ways to advertise is actual through social media. If you have a larger following, the easier you will have getting people directed toward your content. You should also make social media accounts for your content if you plan on conducting business as a small business.

Branding is also a valuable component of your marketing strategy and can set your business apart. Catchy business name and memorable logo are nearly as important as the products you decide to sell. Labeling your craft and art projects is another important part of your branding. You want to make sure every product you’ve made has your business name (or your personal name) and logo attached to it. You can design custom-made tags and labels. Know Where to Sell

One of the most important parts of selling your DIY projects is knowing where to sell your products. When it comes to this, you have a lot of options.

The most popular option by far is Etsy. This website allows you to create your own store and sell your products. However, you also have options such as ArtFire, Folksy, and iCraft.
