Skin cancer falls into the category of most common type of cancers. It usually develops due to formation of malignant cells on a specific skin area. It is mainly categorized into three types namely melanoma, basal cell, and squamous cell skin cancer. Root cause behind the occurrence of skin cancer is still a topic of research. However, certain factors like overexposure to ultraviolet radiation, growth of irregular moles on body, family history of skin cancer, and weakened immune system are known to fuel up the possibility of skin cancer. Timely detection and an appropriate treatment plan can significantly help cure this disease. Skin cancer treatment cost may vary according to provisions of hospital and patient’s requirements.

Most Common Signs of Skin Cancer

The following points elaborate the common warning signs associated with different types of skin cancers.

  • Melanoma Skin Cancer - This skin cancer is considered to be a fatal disease. It can be recognized with the help of enumerated signs and symptoms.
  • Asymmetry - Any mole, beauty mark or birthmark on body which tends to be asymmetric in nature is a clear indication of melanoma skin cancer.
  • Border - A person must closely observe the outline of mole. If it appears to be slightly blurred or irregular in shape, then one must seek help of a medical professional.
  • Diameter - Any mole should not be greater than the size of a pencil eraser. An unevenly shaped large mole may signify the presence of underlying melanoma skin cancer.
  • Color - An abnormal mole involving different shades of color like black, red, blue, and white should not be taken lightly. Patients must go to a doctor’s clinic to determine whether the mole is normal or cancerous in nature.
  • Changes In Dimensions - Significant changes in mole including its color, size, or shape are clear signs of unrecognized melanoma skin cancer.
  • Basal Cell Skin Cancer - This type of skin cancer is not as deadly as melanoma skin cancer. However, it may lead to various health-related complications. The following signs and symptoms may be an indication of basal cell skin cancer.
  • Yellowish Scar - A flat pale or yellowish appearing scar on any area of skin generally specify the development of basal cell skin cancer on patient’s body.
  • Itchy Red Patches - Red colored itchy patches on skin may form as a result of underlying basal cell skin cancer.
  • Abnormal Bumps - Small black or brown colored bumps on skin should not be ignored. They usually connote the beginning of basal cell skin cancer.
  • Open Sores - An open sore or spot that continues to hurt, itch, or bleed implies a skin cancer.
  • Squamous Cell Skin Cancer - Also known as ‘squamous skin carcinomas’, squamous cell skin cancer tend to develop on skin areas which are exposed to sunlight such as face, lip, ear, neck, and limbs. Fair-skinned people are more likely to develop this type of skin cancer.
  • Scaly Patches - Itchy and scaly patches are often observed on the skin of patients suffering from squamous skin carcinoma.
  • Hard Lumps - Growing lumps with a hard and rough surface are common signs of squamous skin carcinoma.

A person experiencing any of the above-mentioned signs of skin cancer should seek an appointment with well-experienced oncologist as early as possible. Also, one must get indulge in regular physical evaluation and avoid stepping out in sun for minimizing the risk of skin cancer.
