I Now Understand Why Some Women Drink In the Afternoon...

My three year old daughter was sick this week.  Normally, she bounces down the stairs in the morning and asks me the same two questions – “What are we doing today?  Can I eat something?”  However, yesterday, she came down the stairs, looking like she was out on an all night bender, and said, “Mommy, my head hurts, can I lay down in your lap?”    As much as I love those cuddling moments with my child, I would trade them in a second to see that bouncing smiley face coming down the stairs.  She layed on the couch most of the day, in and out of sleep with a fever that reached a high of 103.7.  After a trip to the doctor, we found out that she has an ear infection, as well as a virus that is causing the fever and sore throat.  Isn’t it ironic that the one week we have off from my son having ear infections, our daughter gets one.

After returning home,  I tried to keep our terrorist 10 month old son from stealing her blanket and laughing about it every two seconds, though it was a futile attempt.   I found myself struggling to give them each the attention and love they deserved.  How do parents take care of one sick child when the healthy child wants all of your attention as well?

And just as I was ready to drink a cocktail in the middle of the afternoon, the antibiotics kicked it.  Thank you random scientists for inventing antibiotics.  I love you people.  After two doses of antibiotics, I got my girl back this morning.  Bouncing down the stairs, asking to eat chocolate chips (I have no idea where she got that from, what kind of mother feeds their children chocolate chips in the morning?  Crazy….)  and wanting to go on an adventure.  Of course, now I’m just waiting for the 10 month old to start feeling warm and mommy to completely lose her mind.  I have the vodka ready in case of emergency.
