A few weeks ago I wrote about the 8 year old Arizona boy who shot his father and another man.
Police have claimed from the start that this was a premeditated act and that the child has admitted to it. What drove the child to want to murder his father? Police now say it was because he was spanked.

In a written record of spankings by his parents police say that the boy vowed that the 1,000th spanking would be his limit. According to a police record, the child "is believed to have made ledgers and or communicated in the form of writings about his intentions. (The boy) told a CPS. .. worker that when he reached one thousand spankings. .. that would be his limit. (The boy) kept a tally of his spankings on a piece of paper.

Does this mean, if the father would have sat down and talked things out with the 8 year old instead of spanking him, he would still be alive?

Is 1000 spankings by the time a child is 8 years old excessive and a form of child abuse?
