Basically I am still very new to this mom thing. I fell in love with my boyfriend almost a year and a half ago, and I fell madly head over heals in love with his daughter. So I jumped in at the deep end. This consequently is the best, and most difficult thing I have ever done. I left my home country for the very different life of Johannesburg. The move in itself faced me with a lot of challenges, some of which, a lot of which I am still adapting to.

In the UK, we sleep with our windows open, we forget to lock doors and we can 'quickly nip down to the shops' with the kids on there bikes or scooters. here in S.A it is a very different story. We have alarms, security gates, electric fences, cameras and security guards everywhere. And this is just the security we purposely are made aware of. And I'm not sure if I am the only one who see's it like this but, it only gives me reason to be scared! Living here it makes me miss the simple quirks of walking to a park, or nipping down to get some milk. Don't take for granted the leaves on the ground that crunch under your warm feet in your nice autumn boots, because you really miss them when they are gone!

Another, I want to say 'issue' but its really not a big thing but its a hassle, I don't have my drivers licence yet. (I'm actually petrified of getting it) My boyfriend took me out once to "learn" how to drive (because after one lesson I'll magically know) long story short, I drove into a wall. Living in Johannesburg without a means of travel beyond being dependant on my other half is beginning to prove a little bit difficult/stressful. Ever just felt like getting out? Or if my partners busy just being able to grab the wee one and go to a soft play centre or go do something she'd enjoy? BUT... I'm still absolutely terrified of the concept of driving.

Speaking of soft play centres and places to just go spend a day that is child friendly, Johannesburg, where are all these said places? I am seriously struggling to find some! If this was Edinburgh, I could give you list after list of places to go and things to see with kids.

I must however finish with:  When I jumped into the deep end the most beautiful (then 3 turning 4 years old) caught me with open arms and a homely smile, and is beginning to call me mommy. Which evidently makes all the issues I have with security, play dates and driving melt away completely!
