I continue on the road to "Build a Better Blog." Given several questions to guide us, his task asks us to analyze a blog that is within our niche. I guess the first thing to do is figure out my niche. That's easy, at first. I'm a mom who blogs. I mostly write about mom and kid-related stuff. But there are SO many "mom" blogs out there and they can be SO different! Within this "mom" blog niche are several sub-niches-personal, monetized, young mom, teen mom, grandmas, later-in-life moms. Hmmm. Later-in-Life moms That's me (Late Mommy...get it?)! This is the niche I further explore. There are lots of these blogs, too, but I settle on Late Blooming Mom . Like me, she met her husband, married and had children in her late thirties.
Her tag line is catchy: Late Blooming Mom-The Misadventures of a Later-in-Life Mom. Her blog design is simple, uncluttered. Her content isn't just for older moms. Her posts relate to raising kids (she has twins who are going into kindergarten), something all moms can appreciate. For me, I enjoy the perspective of someone who is similar to me and what I can learn from her. This is a personal blog, with no adds (only a link to Amazon highlighting favorite books). Many links are shared, from similar blogs & sites to causes about which Late Blooming Mom is passionate. One thing, though. I found a link I found interesting, but the link didn't work. The person's blog address had changed (I did find it and it is a good resource for moms of "advanced maternal age"). This reminded me to check the links I put on my blog and make sure they are current. This is a good lesson for all of us!
I really like this blog. Reading about other late-in-life moms and their experiences only helps similar moms know they are not alone and everything will be fine. Thanks, Late Blooming Mom!
