I was putting the finishing strokes on the fourth installment of my “It’s a Thin Line” series – you can visit parts12 and 3 – when I realized what I really wanted to do was reminisce about what I miss. So here goes:

  4. Free time
  5. When people still knew how to punctuate and spell
  6. The Jane Fonda Workout
  7. The original Fisher-Price Little People sets, choking hazards and all
  8. Headgear
  9. Madison Park Bakery maple bars
  10. Grunge rock
  11. My elementary school crush, Michael Lamb
  12. Being able to tolerate hangovers
  13. “Harriet the Spy”
  14. When the winter and summer Olympics happened the same year, once every four
  15. Thinking about what we would name our children
  16. Seven-digit telephone numbers
  17. My parents’ diesel station wagon
  18. The PAC-MAN eating sound
  19. Playdates before people called them “playdates”
  20. Swimming in Lake Washington
  21. Cherry Bombs
  22. Summers when my cousins would visit
  23. Styx
  24. Someone else making me dinner
  25. High dives
  26. Hiding in my dad’s closet full of suits
  27. Hidden Beach parties
  28. Walking to my friends’ houses, even if they lived a couple of miles away
  29. My fake ID
  30. Mrs. Stanislaus’ ancient history class
  31. Being able to watch “The Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island” both, on the same night
  32. Reading “Tess of the D’Urbervilles” for the first time
  33. When boys asked you to “go” with them
  34. Peace and quiet
  35. Making crank calls
  36. “Party of Five”
  37. Getting paid for my work
  38. When 45 was not an age I was approaching or a lotion I applied to my face but a record I played on a turntable
  39. When 9/11 was just another day in September
