My Cesarean Prayer

When I gave birth to my first Daughter I had an emergency Cesarean. I honestly thought it  would be my final act to bring her into this world and this poem sums up the prayers I made during surgery.


Cesarean Prayer

Though now they lay me down to cut
I pray, my Lord, your ears don’t shut
I need you now more than before
For now I feel death at my door
And if I die before they’re done
I pray you’ll spare my little one
Bless her health, please keep her strong
And in her heart nestle a song
To sing of laughter, love and tears
Of which she’ll learn of through the years
Be her guide till she joins you one day
With laughter lines, old & grey
 For if I die with her first breath
 I have no fear in final rest
