Remember My Melody? Was she Hello Kitty's friend, or sister, or something? Anyhow I remember that I loved the Sanrio Characters when I was a kid. Here I am, almost 40 years later and these same little cutie characters are still around. They've survived the 70's bell bottoms, the 80's big hair, 90's hip hop, and the first decade of Y2K.

Well, I have a favorite blog that I like to check out, it's called DorkStitch. I think Missy who is the author of that blog shares my admiration of Sanrio characters as well. This is her My Melody cross stitch pattern

First I printed the pattern, and since I am not that great with patterns, I took some crayons and did a basic color by number so I could have a visual of what this would look like. Then I got started once again on my single crochets; row, by row, by row.... That gets kind of booring, so you can imaging how happy I was to finally start cross stitching. This is how she looked after the first few days.

Once I was finished with all that good stuff. I incorporated large granny squares in mauve onto the top and bottom of the blanket and finished off with what I would describe to be somewhat of a popcorn style edging. I threw in a few stars in the upper corner and decided to leave some space to the left of My Melody so I could personalize it with a phrase or a name. The blanket turned out to be crib / toddler size at 32" wide by 42" long.

Here she is , My Melody , in all her glory.
