Baby Showers: The Next Big Thing

Like so many modern celebrations, Baby Showers have arrived in the UK from North America. It’s a real tradition over there and, like High School Proms, Halloween and Black Friday, one of those exciting social events that is catching on big time over here.

The idea is simple but universally appealing. Throw a party for the pregnant mother and her…

OUR DAILY PINS

Yes, such a place exists. A supercharged playground located in Chandler, AZ, Playtopia is like the Big Daddy of all playgrounds The first time I went, I think Blake was only about four months old. It was for a playdate meet-up with other moms and I went more for the chit-chatting, as Blake stayed snuggled in my arms the whole time.

Alas, time moves forward so quickly and weekend activities are best filled with outings that involve lots of play and movement for our little tyke. We are enjoying the utmost of beautiful weather--breezy '70's here in Arizona and it was the perfect day for a picnic lunch and romping around the most impressive Playtopia. We packed our cooler with ham sandwiches, mini rice cakes, and Horizon Organic Chocolate Milk (ahem, side note, but does it weird anyone else out that this delicious milk pack does not come refrigerated?!)

The main focus of this park is a large play area. Instead of a sand floor, wood chips are underfoot. The slides in the main area of best for older kiddos, seriously they are super steep. Bobby went down them with Blake. Her little body would have gone flying if he did not join her. I love that about play areas at parks. You see a bunch of dads just as giddy to be there as the kids. They really don't ever grow up do they?

Blake's personality is this intriguing mix of miss cling-on (stage five at times! :-) and yet miss independent wanting to check things out and be brave on her own accord, at first she just wanted to stay in Bobby's arms. But eventually she ventured out on her own for a bit, always scanning the crowd to make sure she saw us and then zooming back to us. There are several smaller areas around the main play area--these areas seem more suited for the little tots.

If you live in the East Valley, shoot if you are in the greater Phoenix area, it is definitely worth the drive especially in this gorgeous-picnic-worthy-weather.

There are both bucket swings and regular swings--which are often absent at our small, neighborhood parks. And the all important bathroom is as spotless and clean as a public restroom can be... there are several picnic tables, benches, and large grassy areas to sit and enjoy a meal. Although it was a Sunday afternoon, and there were tons of kids out, the park did not feel overcrowded. Seriously there are enough areas to go around. Head there soon before the weather won't allow! It's free. And your husband will enjoy it just as much as your kiddos :-)
