Possessing Your Greatness—The Promised Land Within by Compass Spirit Coach Rachel Juanita, www.CompassSpiritCoach.com
Do you feel that you have been called to Greatness? Has God given you a dream that is larger than life? Are you standing in the center of God’s will reflecting your greatness within?
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is the story of Caleb and Joshua in the book of Numbers. God made a promise to the people of Israel that He would deliver them unto the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey. Under the leadership of Moses, the Israelites were about to go into the land and take possession of their promise. In preparation, Moses sends twelve leaders into the land to take an assessment and to report back to the people what they see in the land. The twelve go over to the land of promise and see that it is all that God said it would be. However, the twelve also take notice of the current occupants of the land and decide to choose their fear over their faith—their greatness within.
I’m a Christian Life Coach with the Compass Coaching Community. The coaching system we utilize is based on Kim George’s book, Coaching into Greatness. As I prepare to launch my first Spirit Track coaching groups, I cannot help but relate the Living into Greatness Action System with the story of Caleb and the Twelve Spies in Numbers 14.
A Different Spirit
"But my servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it" (Numbers 14:24).
God said that Caleb had a different spirit within him. When you read the Bible’s account of the Twelve Spies, Caleb exhibited a spirit of complete trust in God. He trusted that God was who He said He was and could do what He said He could and would do. His spirit within him knew to be true that God was the Great I AM—The total expression of Greatness! He knew that God was sovereign and in total control of every situation. He also knew and trusted in the Abundance of God.
Choose Faith--Your Greatness Within Over Your Fear—Your Scarcity Within
Although all twelve witnessed the same situations in the Promised Land, ten chose to dwell on the size of the current occupants and their own abilities, “But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. (Num 13:31)” They chose to empower their fear—the spirit of scarcity within them. As Kim George states, “Fear is a disconnection, or separation, from the truth of who we are.” However, two chose to act on their faith and honor the greatness within. Caleb chose to believe that he was more than a conqueror and that with God, he was greater than the challenges they were facing.
Declaration precedes actualization
Before Caleb could possess the land, to actualize the promise, he made a bold declaration. He declared, “Let us go up at once, and occupy it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30 – ESV). He also said, “If the Lord delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us” (Numbers 14:8). Declaration is the first step toward actualization or manifestation of a dream. There is activating power in our words. Everything we receive from God comes by faith and faith comes by hearing the truth spoken. Caleb released his faith and caused God to take action, when he made his declaration.
Possess Your Greatness- 4 Steps of the Living Into Greatness Action System
• Awareness-Remember who you are. Caleb knew that he was a child of God and an heir of the promise. He knew that he was a chosen one and that God favored him. In order for us to possess our greatness, we must remember who we are. We are God’s children. God is not only for us and with us, but He is within us.
• Acceptance- Own who you are. Caleb accepted the truth that he was a child of the promise. God did not see him as a small grasshopper, so why should he. Instead, he believed the report of God. He was an heir to the Promised Land. Caleb accepted to own his faith and the promise of God, that he would possess the land. Although it could have cost him his life. He chose to commit to believe in God. “Acceptance of the truth is arrived at not because of appearances, but is arrived at in spite of appearances.”
• Action- Live who you are. Caleb took consistent action from the moment he gave the report of faith until he finally possessed the land of promise forty years later after all of the other Israelites died. Each day for forty years he took actions aligned with his declaration—that he would surely posses the land.
• Authenticity—Loving who you are. Caleb lived his life according to the truth of who he was, despite the circumstances and the appearances around him. When the ten reported that there were giants in the land, Caleb honored who God was and who he was in God and made a declaration of faith. From the beginning to the end of the story, Caleb possessed his greatness within and loved who he was, a child of promise.
