Proud Auntie: My Niece Mekaela In Her First Production Stage Play 'The Wiz'

Aspiring actress and model, Mekaela Simmons, played the role of a munchkin in her very first production stage play 'The Wiz.'

After a little over two months of practicing every Saturday, the day finally came for Mekaela to hit the stage. Just about every week I went with her to practice and when she was done she would never tell me and her mother what she had done, so it was a mystery until we actually saw her on stage.

This past Sunday, the wait was over. Mekaela had three shows to do and she was ready to hit the stage. During the first show, she came out on a dancing scene and knew all the steps so we were surprised because at first she didn't have much rhythm. We later found out that she was thrown on stage during the wrong scene but she played it off really well. (check out the video below)

I was extremely proud of my niece because she did a really great job at shining in this play even though she had a small role. After some coaching from her mother between shows. She really blossomed and stepped out to the front of the stage each time. The whole time she was there, she kept looking out into the crowd for her mom. I didn't go see her between shows but my sister told me that she asked: "where is Meka." It made me all proud and bubbly inside. That's auntie baby!

I want to thank those who came out to support my niece during her first production play. Along with us were some other key audience members such as Tameka Raymond and Q Parker of 112 whose sons were in the play as well.

Check out my niece dancing:
