"All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD." Proverbs 16:2
A wise person see's this scenario as a comforting blanket of protection and a fool see's this as being caged or tied down. In my life I have made some foolish decisions, but at some point I seek and turn it over to God. I release it to Him, allowing His will to be done. A weight is lifted because of His love for me.
"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps" Proverbs 16:9
Our paths are already made for us. I see the physical path having many different types of finishes. Some are paved making the way an easy journey. Some have a brick finish, the ride is bumpy yet it is still well defined and than there is the dirt road slightly worn and not always so clear. Those are the moments that we must pray for clarity and guidance. The LORD establishes our steps. So if we go wrong, He will steer us back to our path.
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18
Oh what a tangled web pride can weave. Pride can lead to many unfavorable acts. It can lead to self defeating behavior. We often forget that the correct emotion is one of thanks to the LORD and humility for a job well done. Pride is boastful and builds one self up for a fall. It can become an unattractive beast.
There is many statements repeated throughout this Proverb as is in the others. We need to look very closely at what is said more than once. If it bears repeating than it is a lesson that we must truly understand and seek to follow. According to my LifeWalk magazine from LifeWay Proverbs 16 is the Law of the Lord. This says to me that this proverb requires reflection, reading and rereading. We can not just skim through it quickly and get bored with the repetitiveness of this chapter. It carries a great lesson and if we are wise we will heed those lessons.
