I have never had a dog before. Until the scrawniest, scraggliest, mutt showed up on our
doorstep right before Thanksgiving.
Evidently, he followed Elle home one afternoon and refused to leave our
front porch. I told Elle to leave
him alone and he would leave. But
all evening he sat in front of our door and wouldn’t leave. Every time we would tiptoe to the door
and look through the glass, the saddest brown eyes would look back at us. My heart was breaking, but I knew he
would leave by morning.
