Sam Fine Says The Biggest Mistake For Women Of Color Is Not Wearing Makeup

As if women of color aren't always on the chopping block for something??? If it's not we're too independent or not standing by our man or have too much attitude/baggage, now MAKEUP!!! REALLY???

In an exclusive interview with Fashion Bomb Daily, celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine didn't hold back on the answering the question about the areas he felt  black women needed to step their game up:

“I think the biggest beauty mistake is really not wearing makeup.”

Before you all get your feathers in a bunch like I almost did, let's just hear the man out. I mean he is a beauty guru and anything that has to do with making me look more beautiful, I definitely want to hear.

“I think the biggest beauty mistake is not understanding how to enhance your beauty,” Sam added. “And I think a lot of [women of color] are scared that makeup is going to make [them] look fake, ‘It’s not gonna look like me, they’re not going to have my color.’ I think that they just tend to step away from the category when a brand like Fashion Fair, is releasing a liquid foundation in July to add to the range of colors. Nineteen shades! There will be 17 shades in liquid! And if you look at that, that’s not a range that’s broken up for general market vs. African Americans. So you really are getting a wealth of coverage options and colors. I think the biggest mistake is not participating in the game at all.”

Being a woman who wears practically NO makeup except eye shadow, I can definitely say i agree with him to some degree. I've tried wearing foundation in the past and have always had a hard time finding the perfect match. I mean, no one wants to walk around looking two-toned or like they have a chalk line from a crime scene around their face. Seems to me the cosmetic manufacturers cater more to our Caucasian counterparts as usual, so most black women choose to opt out of wearing makeup PERIOD!!! For the most part, no other women in my family wear makeup so I never really learned how to use it anyway. Which I'm sure is the same for most black women because we tend not to wear it due to the fact our mothers don't.

Sam doesn't feel that it necessarily takes a full face of makeup to enhance your beauty and advised that women of color at least try adding these five things to their beauty collection.

“Pressed powder, mascara, and lip gloss, because I think those things aren’t intimidating,” he said. “Once you get past the shade of powder, I think that becomes easy to apply. But if I had to go two steps further, I always start out with some kind of a coverage product. A concealer, or a foundation that you can use as a concealer. Underneath the eyes is the thinnest area of skin, so you really want to make sure that any redness or discoloration can be covered.  Also powder. Powder’s going to set the foundation or the concealer so it can stay on longer. I always say powder is to foundation what topcoat is to nail polish. It really holds it in place and keeps it from rubbing off and settling in fine lines.”

So, with that being said, I think I might give this ole makeup thing a try. These were some great tips and now I hope you all aren't still upset with good ole celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine. He was just trying to help a sista out! *wink*
