He lies motionless in an unfamiliar place
He tries to view his world
Only to be met with nothingness
Faded mutterings of peculiar articulations
Surround his being
Taunting his curiosity

Focus . . .
His recognition fails, once more
He knows someone is there
Somewhere in the darkness
Who?

The shuffling of footsteps
On a rigid floor
The rhythmic sounds nearby
Like the waters upon the shore

Inhale

Exhale

A monotonous tone
Counts the time

Isolated
Frightened
Panicked

He lets out a blood-curdling scream
To, somehow, release his confusion
Only
It falls on deaf ears

He is trapped
He is silent
No one hears his plea

He yearns to be recognized
Yet he does not, himself, know

He hears the words spoken
A gentle voice unknown
Yet comforting

For this moment
He is reassured

A lone tear glides
Over his temple

She whispers to him

"I’m right here
Everything is going
To be alright"
