Summer is marketed as being a time for fun and adventure. However, some emergency room doctors will actually call it Trauma Season. Car crashes, drownings, bike crashes, falls, & you name it. All these things happen to millions of kids ages 14 and under during the summer. Kids spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer. Besides being exposed to danger they are also exposed to the heat. Don’t keep your kids outdoors for more than 30 minutes. Give them lots of water to drink in order for them to stay hydrated. Also, don’t leave your child unattended in a hot car. Beware of insects and aggressive dogs when going for a walk. If you don’t want your child to get sticky, avoid candies as they will melt with the sun. Use sunscreens, and hats. If you like riding bikes, make sure your child wears a helmet. Last but not least, the swimming pool. You don’t want a Casey accident. Very sad to hear about unsupervised children dying like that.
