Children never cease to amaze me.....for example, my oldest who is a freshman in high school has made a new best friend this year. The young man that my son has befriended is also in the D/HH program (this young man falls the HH category where as my son is in the D - that's Deaf/Hard of Hearing for those who don't know), he's a basketball player, an online zombie slayer and he also happens to be from the Middle East. My son is pretty much the only friend that this young guy has at their school. To my son it doesn't matter that his friend wears a turban and that his native language is different, it doesn't matter that their views may not be the same, what matters to my son is that the guy is cool and they have stuff to talk about and they can play Halo together on their 360s. My son "sticks up" for this guy when other kids make fun of him and vice versa - just as true friends do. I commend my son for not being petty like so many others of us tend to do, I commend my son for looking past skin color, and ethnic differences to see the cool guy that is his best friend.
