50th Birthday Gifts for Women

The days of living our lives are marked by how well we live and the number of experiences we have collected through the life. A lot of time the experience counts more than the age. There are different milestone birthday’s in the life that makes us revisit life in a certain…

I am totally guilty of getting sucked into Twitter.  And Facebook.  And now Pinterest.  It doesn't help that as a small business owner with a limited advertising budget, social media is a great way to meet new clients and advertise.  I may say I go on for my business, but I know I stay for the pleasure of social media.

I have a theory about women and social media...back in the days before subdivisions, technology and hyper-commitmentism, women used to gather together more.  I think it is in our nature as women to seek out a community.  But unfortunately with the busy lives we all now lead, we have lost that sense of community.  Many of us don't know our neighbors names years after we move into a neighborhood or the names of the other moms of our child's soccer teammates.  BUT social media creates that community we seek.  And we can do it on our terms and make it fit our availability.  Our neighbor may not be available for coffee at 1am but Pinterest certainly has plenty of ideas for your son's birthday party at any time, night or day.

Alright, enough theorizing and excuses...we like social media.  It's good for us.  It helps us moms create a clan, like the good old days.  But what about when it starts to interfere with getting things done (I'm totally guilty of this.)  There are options if you need someone or something to tell you "Hey, get off Facebook and go make dinner."  Check out Rescue TimeMinutes Please and Facebook Limiter for both free and paid plans.  These sites are super user friendly and will block selected sites during certain times of day or set a timer to say "time to get off the computer now."  And now I have to wrap this up...my timer says I only have 10 more seconds....
