Tips On How To Repair Windows Glass

Window glass tends to last a long time without needing any sort of repairs. However, occasionally you are going to have something happen to the glass which is going to require you to have to repair it. Whether something hits it with force or something else happens to it, you will need to repair it accordingly. Below, we will be going over some of the different tips that you are going to want to utilize when you are trying to figure out how to repair windows glass.

How To Repair Windows Glass Tips:

1. Replacement.

When it comes to repairing a broken glass or shattered window pane, the process is relatively easy. However, if the pane is large and/or dual glazing, it is usually going to be easier to replace the entire thing. In a lot of cases, you might even have to order special glass in order to do so. You will want to have a replacement on hand prior to actually removing your old one in order to avoid having to tape up the window. The first thing that you are going to want to do in the replacement process is remove the broken glass. At that point, you should tape the cracked pane with duct tape in order to avoid having glass shards from falling out as you are removing it.

You also want to be sure to completely protect yourself by wearing appropriate safety glasses in case glass comes towards your eyes. Lastly, you will want to be sure that you are also wearing heavy duty gloves to protect your hands from potential cuts. While replacing your pane, you are going to want to try to buy the same kind of glass in order to have it match your other windows. This is important if you are not looking to replace all of your windows at the same time because you don't want to have all different panes on your home. We hope you enjoyed our how to repair windows glass tips.

2. Wood Windows.

When it comes to installing a new window pane with wooden windows, you are going to want to have something that is going to be able to hold the wood completely in place such as a putty. By having this in place, you will be able to hold the glass in place and really be able to ensure that it doesn't go anywhere as you word on it. You will then want to begin removing the broken glass. After you successfully remove it, you will want to remove the old putty with a chisel. You might even need to soften it by using oil. Once you do that, you will be able to successfully replace the glass.

3. Metal Windows.

If you are dealing with metal windows, you are going to want to pull out the old glass and insert the new glass and replacing all of the parts that actually hold the glass into place. This is going to be a much easier process than replacing a wood window for instance.

At the end of the day, when it comes to removing glass and replacing it, you are likely going to do best by simply hiring a repair specialist. That way, you know that it gets done properly and you wont have to put yourself in harms way as it can be somewhat dangerous especially if you do not know what you are doing or you have never done it before. By hiring a professional, you will be sure that it will get done properly and you should be able to really see the best results.
