Summer vacations will be soon upon us, and it is a time when keeping children entertained is a chore. It is a struggle to keep kids healthy and active. Don’t forget that an idle mind is the devil’s playground. Children should be directed towards activities that will allow them to stay busy and also keeps them mentally and physically healthy. Summer vacations are a good time to cultivate a new hobby or fulfil their interests.

There are quite a number of things that can occupy your kids' time over the summer months to keep their bodies moving and their minds thinking.

Summer vacations are a good time to direct them towards extracurricular achievements such as sports, music, dance or other forms of art. This will help children to develop better cognitive abilities and have a social life. Try to induce them into activities that include socializing with a group of children. This can be helpful for shy kids.

1. Sports

Organized sport for kids and teens is often a great way get your children to regularly participate in physical activity.


Many social benefits can be acquired through sports. It can provide constant physical outlet for active kids and help lazy kids to develop a habit for physical activity. Team sports teach children about trust and responsibility. All together sports also produce a sense of discipline and routine that can be helpful for kids. Swimming is a sport that makes summer vacations fun. Try to take the children to the public swimming pool or even help them set up a temporary pool in the backyard so they can splash around in water.

2. Learn something new

Summer vacations also provide enough time for children to learn more about their native culture and other foreign cultures. Introduce them to art or a new language. It is relatively easy to learn new languages at a young age, so it is a good time to introduce them to other languages. This will also allow their mind to stay active. You can also introduce them to word games that will help them to acquire vocabulary. DIY projects are also another good method to keep children busy. Introduce them to DIY projects for their rooms, allow them to help you in the kitchen and cook snacks for themselves.
