Recently, a friend asked me to share my testimony. I was a taken aback. No one had ever asked me for my story before. Come to think of it, I wasn't so sure I had much of a story to tell. When I hear testimonies of how people had drastic circumstances that brought them to the Lord, I am usually in awe. Former gangsters, former drug dealers, former atheists, former prositutes, orphans, homeless...these are the people that have a testimony, right? I've done plenty of stupid stuff in my life, but not enough to warrant a testimony, right? I was a secretly rebllious teenager, a teen mom, divorcee...oh wait...

That began the process of writing out the story of my life. So far, I've penned nine pages of significant events that have unfolded in my thrirty-one years, much of that without divulging every particular detail. Even my husband, who knows everything about me, read through it and mused, "You left out a lot of stuff."

So what's in a testimony? One of Merriam-Webster's definitions says it is "an open acknowledgment." That one seems to fit what I've written, because in my story, I openly acknowledge the fact that I've screwed up so much, it must take quite a merciful God to still love me and sustain me like He does.

One interesting fact that I've discovered through this writing process is this: we all have a testimony. All of us are here for a purpose, and if we allow God's love to shine through our lives, we become a testament of the saving power of Jesus. No one is perfect, but even the most seemingly bland of lives can be used for God's glory.

What matters most in telling our testimony is the outlook of those who are hearing it. A former drug dealer speaking to drug dealers can have a huge impact on a countless number of lives. A self-professed geek can make an incredible difference in the lives of other geeks. Where you are coming from in your life is not important. The significance comes in being willing to share with others so that God can speak to them through your life.

So how about it? What's your testimony?
