Yes, these are the top jobs we, mothers can do to be able to work from home.
These jobs will allow you to take care of your families and earn a good amount of income already.
While many suggest that we put up a home-based business which is a lucrative investment, most women find this hard to pursue. Economic or financial situations present limited resources to most mothers so these work-at-home jobs are the more practical and wiser choices to kickoff your career at home.
Among the first things you need to do is to invest in a computer and good internet connection services.
The next yet crucial investment is your investment in yourself. Always keep in mind that you need to be open to change and to continuous education when you work online.
The virtual assistant services listed are the general types of jobs a virtual assistant does. There are still other tasks which clients ask for like eBook formatting perhaps or making a Powerpoint presentation with audio. But don’t be afraid to carry out these tasks. Just remember that the internet is a vast resource where you can learn practically anything. All you have to do is search.
You can start by specializing in general administrative tasks or accounting services if you have the basic know-hows. Eventually, as you improve on your craft and as you become more versed with how the internet works, you can learn about search engine optimization and internet marketing. You can then choose to specialize in providing the tasks involved in these concepts to your clients.
With regards to writing services, those are only some of the kind of write-ups many clients are looking for right now. The most basic are SEO articles. If you haven’t heard of them, be sure to look it up. These are not hard to write once you get the idea on how to approach them.
Writing blog posts seem easy enough but this would still depend on how versed you are with the topic asked for by your clients. It’s best to specialize in niches where you already have a good background in. If not, then good research skills will be your best friend to produce high-quality posts and also develop your writing skills.
Again, don’t limit yourself to what you already know about writing. Writing for the internet is similar in some ways but very different in a lot of ways too from writing for print media. Stock up your knowledge with free ebooks, reports, and webinars when possible to become much better. Of course, in general the language on the internet is in English, so always brush up on your English grammar and spelling skills.
Transcription and translation jobs require special skills. If you have very fast and accurate typing skills or have a medical transcription degree then by all means, go for it! Knowing another language is also a skill and talent which will allow you to work from home. Foreign and native languages are both included so don’t hesitate to find translation or interpreter jobs. You never know when someone would need to translate in another language aside from English.
Graphic and web design are another set of special skills. If you have learned these in school then good for you. If not, but you have a knack and talent for designing using tools like Photoshop, Illustrator and the like then you can give some time to learning these skills online first before offering your creative services. But once you have the skills, knowledge and experience in graphic and web design, you will not regret having learned them. These are among the high-paying jobs in the online market today second to writing and special virtual assistant services.
If you have worked in the corporate world for sometime then doing virtual assistant services may be your first choice, but being a project manager is also a good field to explore especially if you’ve handled teams or departments in your past corporate jobs. Online project management takes a slightly different course since most clients would ask you to collaborate tasks using project management tools. But again, nothing is hard as long as you are willing to invest some time to learn it.
Among the management tasks which are most commonly outsourced today are hiring, team communication, assigning of tasks, overseeing of workflow and deadlines, management of social media accounts, content creation, and marketing.
I’ve personally tried all of these, over the course of the 2 years that I’ve been working as a freelancer, except for translation services.
Now I am primarily focused on project management and writing services.
It took lots of reading, learning and making mistakes too before I’ve mastered the skills. And until now, I am still learning to improve my skills.
Setting some time, even just 30 minutes to 1 hour to learn more about my current skills set or new skills or just reading a book or blog which I like keep me more adept with online jobs. It also helps the creative juices flow since I offer creative services through writing.
These jobs are actually not only applicable to mothers who want to work-at-home but to any individual who wants to have the flexibility of time gained from working freelance.
If you’re not yet working from home, assess the current skills, work experience and knowledge that you have and match these to the top jobs above. Then apply for the job posts in the sites listed in the WAHM Jobs page now. You may just land that first job to be able to work-at-home already starting today.
If you are working from home already, you can also consider trying other work-at-home jobs to add to your skills set or even just to address a passion you have had. Just like me, I started as a general VA and switched to writing because I just love working with words.
With the current trends, we can say that it’s very possible to work-at-home. The only thing which could limit you is your belief that you can’t. It’s not a get-rich quick scheme but with determination and patience, you can also be a WAHM.
For a start, you can let me know in the comments what types of jobs you’re interested in…
And which ones you’ll be applying for today. Yes, today! So you can start your career at home now.
