Brunch: A Genesis Child Theme for Food & Lifestyle Bloggers
My daughter is almost 4 months old, and right now I am only breastfeeding her. I have wanted to hold off on giving her "real" food until she is at least 6 months old, and her dad thinks I am ridiculous. I am just not ready for her to have anything else, and she seems satisfied with breastmilk so far. He has already tried to give her chocolate and beans, and I'm afraid she will develope a food allergy (or get sick) if he just shoves whatever he feels like in her mouth. He has a severe nut allergy, so do several people in his family, and that is something that really worries me. How would ya'll handle this, and when did you start giving your baby food? I would love some feedback from other moms who have gone through this and know what works and what doesn't!

I usually wait until my babies are six months old and at least near the end of five months. Then I just start off with rice cereal for a few months and slowly start mixing in baby food and then table food. My third baby is 10 months old right now and still nursing four times a day and also eats table food. Although not chocolate! ;)
If your daughter seems satisfied with breastmilk then I would keep her on it until she needs more! Good luck!

Sorry, I meant wait til your child is two years old before introducing nuts.

I believe that recent research is suggesting that 6 months seems to be the most beneficial time for introducing solid foods. Since babies don't need solid food and since you have a family history of allergies it certainly can only be beneficial to hold off til 6 months (research shows that waiting longer than 6 months is not more beneficial however). Also you should wait until your child is at least two years old. I had a nut allergy when I was a kid and my 3 1/2 year has a nut allergy. The doctor has advised us to wait til siblings are 3 to give them any nuts.
