Who are we blogging to anyway? Is anyone out there???

I love the blogosphere, and since you are reading this, it is safe to assume that you do too!  Blogging is a terrific way to have a discussion with perfect strangers about topics that bring us together.  Perfect example: here we are at MomBloggersClub.com. . . we are all here for one reason: we are mothers seeking information, wanting to share information, and looking for a way to connect with one another.  We are a community.

Being a mother is quite arguably the most difficult and important job one could ever have, and if we support one another as strangers, friends, and colleagues, we will be better able to do our jobs as parents to the best of our ability.  Personally, I am a mother of two incredible daughters.  I am also an educator and the founder of one of the nation's most elite private schools.  The reason that I blog is so that I can impart some of the nuggets of wisdom I have gained over years, in the hopes that I can help and support other mothers.  Why do YOU blog?

Here is the catch: Are we writing these thoughtful blogs just to hear ourselves think on a public forum, or are we actually listening to one another and contributing to the conversation at large???  We can spend all morning writing out the most articulate article, that could potentially help countless mothers, but is anyone actually taking the time to read it?  And more importantly, will anyone take the time to respond?  Admit it. . . as a blogger, when you get that little notification that Mommy_of_Tommy has replied to your latest post, you get excited!  You get that sudden rush of adrenaline wondering if she liked what you had to say, if she disagrees, if she shares your opinion, or wants to offer some valuable advice.  And then the conversation begins!  That is really why we blog isn't it? To create a dialogue?

So I wonder. . . who are we REALLY blogging for?  Ourselves?  Others?  I would like to think that we are blogging for both ourselves AND our readers.  We love the validation that what we have to say is important and worthwhile, and it's a great feeling knowing that maybe we've touched someone else's life with our thoughts and words.  In a way, this is a challenge.  If you blog, I encourage you to take the time to read other people's blogs.  Even further, I challenge you to really absorb what other people are saying and to respond to their posts.  Agree, disagree. . . whatever!  Just connect!  This isn't merely a challenge to you, but it is one that I will most certainly apply to myself as well.

With that said, HAPPY BLOGGING fellow MomBloggers!  This community is what we make of it!
