And not because I like two-story homes. I actually told my husband many years ago that I NEVER wanted to live in a multi-story dwelling. They don't appeal to me. The extra space. The loftiness. The stacking of life. I'm not a 'bird' person. I like roots. Ground. Stability. Well, relatively speaking.

But whenever you utter the word "never" you get re-aligned by good old destiny. So this is our second home in a two-story. Not on purpose, mind you. It's not like we looked at a bunch of homes and finally settled on this one. We actually only looked at one home in preparation for this last move. And here we are now. And, we're renters. And this place has its own special properties/issues which I'll go into on another day.

But back to my headline. Wishing I was upstairs right now...sewing, creating, cutting fabric, sorting buttons. It's a rainy, cold day here after a sunny, warm few weeks. Kind of a shock to our systems really. What? Isn't summer next? No more winter mode, please. And the babe is not safe on our attic stairs or anywhere upstairs for longer than a minute. And our crafty-sewing-imaginative space is upstairs. Look at those stairs!

And even though I know that babe will grow faster than a weed (he already is), I miss and crave that chaotic frenzy of figuring out how to make something, sharing needle and thread, and a warm lap with the girls in front of the sewing machine. So, our upstairs is a dress-up wonderland for now and storage...until babe is safer upstairs and willing to sleep when I work overhead. (He wakes right up if you go upstairs during nap time or after he's in bed. Our attic is right above our bedrooms after all.)

So right now we're huddling near the fire. Playing memory. Drawing outlines of our bodies to color. Doing a little baking. And daydreaming.

P.S. Why do kids like to wear their bathing suits when it's freezing in the house?! Well, at least their bathing suits inspired our tracing activity today.
