We're having a great conversation at At Home Take 2 with a HOT topic question for bloggers:

Do you love or hate Word Verification, and why?

If you use Word Verification, did you know that many people find it annoying? I bet you didn't know you could actually be loosing blog traffic by having this feature enabled.  Check out your statistics... how many of your visitors are repeat visitors?  What percentage are you loosing?  If even a portion of those visitors who aren't returning to your blog aren't returning because you have Word Verification enabled... it's time to get rid of it.
You might not be aware you even have it enabled.  If you're on Blogger, check it out.  Go to Settings: Posts and Comments: Show Word Verification.  Make sure you have it set to No.
My Take:

I visit a lot of blogs, and leave a lot of comments. Trust me, I seriously do not like word verification. Most of the time I'll go ahead and leave a comment anyway because I want to make connections with other bloggers, but sometimes I can't make out those pesky little letters. That can be annoying. If I still can't read it after I refresh the letters, then I will leave without commenting. Sorry!
Now, think about the majority of your readers.  Most of them are visiting multiple blogs a day and commenting on posts that interest them.   The average visit to a blog is approximately half a minute.  Think about it... just 30 seconds to draw someone in and keep them coming back for more.  You want to give them reasons to come back.

The Fact Is:
Did you know that most Blogger blogs don't generate a lot of spam?  The only 'spammy' comments that I have had are actually from real people who don't mind going through the Word Verification process.  If you don't like a comment- delete it.  Simple as that.  Easy Peasy!

What's Your Take:
So.. do you like Word Verification?  I'd love to hear what your experience with Word Verification has been.  Does it turn you off, or not bother you at all?

I feel the exact way. I hate them, especially when I'm signing up for something and it won't let me go even though I know I'm typing it correctly. I've disabled mine on Blogger. I understand why some people have it though as I've gotten spam sent to me through the contact form on my business page. Very annoying.
