When you become a parent, there is no manual. There is no one to tell you what’s right and what’s wrong. Not much is black and white; there are many questions that result in different answers for different families. But in my time as a mama, I’ve learned two things about child raising that are universal truths.
The first: you have to make decisions that do right by your family – not your sister’s family or your cousin’s family or your best friend from high school’s family. And if anyone has a problem with that – well, that’s their problem. Not yours. For some, this is easier said than done. But you have to realize that your child will be forever better off when his parents make decisions that make sense for their family make up and income and lifestyle.
