How to Save Money on Family Debt

One of the biggest challenges that modern families face, is figuring out how to spend less money,…

What Thermostat Temperature Setting Should I Use in the Summer?

In this day and age, every little bit you do to help the environment helps. Conserving energy is one of the major global concerns, and those efforts start right there in your home. But when the summer comes, many homeowners don’t give a…

I love when I receive an e-mail from one of our readers with a question… About the boys, our family, my role as a mom, our blog, things I love; its so cool to connect with many people around the world ; )  I decided to compile a list of my most frequently asked questions and share my answers with everyone!  In no particular order, these are 10 questions I feel like I’m asked the most…

What are your boys’ favorite toy(s)?

Honestly, I don’t think either of our boys have a favorite ‘toy’!  They go through stages so this answer changes every ummm 6 months?  Right now, Roman is all about trucks, diggers, excavators, cranes, dirt, rocks and his BIKE… he loves his bike.  Oh! And Legos!  And Rocco?  He’s a ‘project’ boy.  He loves (and needs) to be busy.  He likes building and creating; he loves everything about the outdoors and enjoys playing with any kind of outdoor toy too… bikes, scooters, swings, anything he can ‘ride’ on.  Come back in 6 months, this will all be different!

How many kids do you want to have?

Brian and I think we’ll have 4 (Lord willing).  It feels right to us and as of now, that’s where we think (& hope) we’re headed.  My heart has always desired a ‘field of little ones’ and Bri knew that when he met me.  So, 4 and done it is.  We’d love to have the last 2 close together in age (like Rocco and Roman are) but as of God’s plan?  Who knows ; )  Taking is one sweet babe at a time and we can’t wait to have 3!

Do you meal plan?

YES!  But more recently, no.  School schedules have really thrown me off my game and I’m still figuring out a good routine for everyone.  I used to meal plan every week and kept the list of meals on a ‘Note’ in my iPhone.  Each morning, I’d look at the ‘plan’, take a meat out of the freezer, prep whatever else needed to be prepped during nap-time and cook.  Now?  I fly by the seat of my pants but completely admit that meal planning is so much easier (for me).  AND, I find that I don’t over-buy at the grocery store… a big plus when on a budget!

What do you like to watch on TV?

oooo… I love television but only watch it at night when the boys go to bed so I don’t have any fav daytime shows.  I probably watch Style, Bravo and The Food Network the most.  One of my favorite tv shows is ‘Modern Family’, my favorite Food Network show is ‘Giada at Home’ and as crazy and ‘unreal’ as it is, I love reality tv too.

Biggest pet-peeve?

As a mom? or in general?  Generally, I hate pop-in visits.  I need to feel alone in the comfort of my home and I’m completely thrown off when someone shows up at the door.  I like to be prepared (& dressed) for visitors.  I’ll never forget the time a ‘friend’ (acquaintance) showed up with her son a couple of years ago.  I was in my robe with no makeup on and a to-do list a mile long.  She didn’t call or text and was just running an errand in our area and stopped by to see if we were free to play.  Yeah, I’m just not good at that.

Biggest pet-peeve as a mom?  All the unwanted advice.  Don’t get me wrong, I love advice; especially a good word of advice from a wise man or woman.  But, when I was a new mom, the amount of advice I received from anyone and everyone was so overwhelming.  I remember feeling like I just wanted to scream, “Can I just vent and talk and have someone listen without trying to tell me how to parent or be a mom?”  That was hard for me.

What is your go-to dinner when you’re in a rush?

Pasta.  I know for sure everyone in our house will eat it, enjoy it and that it will be a delicious meal served within 20/25 minutes!  Since its usually the only thing I’m making, I like to add veggies and a meat (like sweet Italian sausage).  OH!  And I try not to forget the garlic bread – my family loves a good dish of pasta!

Do you ever wish you weren’t a SAHM?

Wish?  No.  Think about it?  Absolutely.  Sometimes I think it would be nice to teach again (I’m certified in ElEd) and other times I think it would be nice to have a little side job (at TJMaxx) that would be ‘easy’ and pull in some extra cash.  I know Brian loves having me at home with our kids (as do I) and I’m blessed to be able to be here full time.  I have watched the time fly by (Rocco will be 5 in March) so I cherish my days and know that the day will come when I will go back to teaching or have a job outside of the home.  For now, this is working for us.

When do you find time to blog?

I have big ideas for this little blog of mine but honestly, I just can’t (well, don’t) make it happen.  I keep a note on my iPhone titled ‘BLOG’ and when things happen throughout the day or when a thought comes in my head or when one of the boys say something cute or silly… I write it down.  I also have 2 nappers that have napped at the same time for a long time now.  I blog during that time (sometimes even while I work out on my elliptical) and I am also able to blog when Brian comes home from work or when the boys go to bed for the night.  There’s no specific time but I do my best to work on it a little each day.  Its also kind of like a ‘therapy’ for me too – I really enjoy writing in this space and love connecting with our readers; I’ve learned so much from them (you) by sharing part of us; it’s a really cool thing.

What’s the one thing you would have done differently as a new mom?

I wish I would have gotten involved with other moms sooner than I did.  I was one of the first women in my circle of friends that had a baby when we did so I didn’t really have friends to go to during my pregnancy or even when Rocco was first born.  I didn’t meet another mom (outside of family) until Rocco was 6/7 months old and wish I had more mama friends to compare stories with, learn from and watch on a day to day basis.  My world opened up tremendously when I finally got involved!  We first got involved in a weekly Kindermusik Class with other moms and babies and I will always have fond memories of our time spent there.  That’s my advice to a new mom: Get Involved with your newborn!  Gymboree, Kindermusic, Story Time, a local Moms Group… anything.

What’s your favorite thing to do with your husband?

Light a fire, pour a glass of wine, turn ‘our’ music on and chat.

Favorite thing you can’t live without?  By ‘thing’, I mean an item, a product, a material…

Hmmm… this is hard.  I love to try new things but definitely get hooked on an item when I find something I love.  Like softlips.  I can’t live without softlips and it’s probably the one product I use the most.  And makeup.  I’ll never go out without makeup on.  Even if its just powder, mascara and chap-stick, I have to have it on.

Thanks for your questions, your e-mails, your love… I love connecting with you!  Now I’m gonna turn these questions over to YOU.  Answer any of these questions below; I’d love to know something about you too!
