How do you handle when someone tells you "You should pay attention to your kids." or "You should not let your child do that!".

It happened a while back when my little girl and I were in the store. A lady behind me just out of the blue gave me an unsolicited advice about how I shouldn't Miss Sunshine do this or that. My response was "I hope you swallow your tongue in your sleep." I know, it was over the top but I was shocked and hurt on how she thought she was a better parent than I was.

Lol - very nice! I wish I could be that snappy! If it's not someone I know, I would probably pretend I didn't hear her and turn bright red (anger/embarassment, lol). And then I would think of the perfect comeback half an hour later when she was gone, lol.

I find it most frustrating when it comes from women who don't have children.
I totally understand. I get it from everyone! I tell some of them to just wait their turn is coming. The part I hate is people who haven't gone through living with a 3 year old boy with no fear. He thinks he has super powers and with all the crazy things he has done he has never gotten hurt. So, I think we must be doing something right.
Well, I can be a real b****h so I would say something right back in their face. There will always be people that won't agree with how you're raising kids but I'm a damn good mom and I've got some awesome kids to prove it;)

People who think they are better parents than you, are usually quite the opposite. Sometimes people with low self confidence talk that way to others in hopes of making themselves feel good;)
People really do that? They must be people with no kids and no earthly idea what you're going through. How rude! I wish I could come up with a snappy comeback, but I'd also be the person who comes up with it after the moment has long passed.
I generally dislike when parents don't pay attention to their kids in public (but I'm not talking about normal kid behavior, I'm talking about parents who let their kids run wild around the store like it's a playground and don't say anything), but I've never said anything to the parents. Mostly because it's not my place.

So far my son is pretty well behaved in public (but he's only 8 months old!!! i just mean he doesn't really cry or fuss) so i haven't had unsolicited comments from strangers yet. I'm sure I will one day though, and although I'm naturally a sharp tongued person, I think I won't even bother with an acknowledgement of the comment because in the grand scheme of things, their opinion doesn't really matter.
I haven't had this pleasant experience yet but I perfected a really frightening, toothy grin during pregnancy and it served me well for those comments. But I've been told I'm just normally very intimidating.
My youngest daughter is abnormally skinny she weighed 25 lbs till she was aout 3. We were in the checkout line in the grocery store when a woman said you should quit starving your daughter and feed her more. I didn't have any snappy comment to say, I was so hurt by the comment I started to cry and I grabbed all my kids left my cart where it was and walked out of the store.

That's awful! Uh, that would just makes me mad. They had the nerve!
It amazes me that people can be so rude! I love that so many of you can think of great come backs.

I've had people compliment me on my parenting and others tell me what wild kids I have on the very same day within hours of each other. Go figure.

It depends on the day. Sometimes I'm quick-thinking and feisty, other times I just walk away from the conflict.
