When someone unfollow you, do you unfollow back?

There seem to be a nasty habit going on around. May it be on twitter or blogger. Someone follows you then unfollows you or completely deletes your blog from their blog roll. I have quite a few of these happen to me. What is the proper etiquette in response? Do I just unfollow back or sulk?

Good question! I have had this on twitter...I do follow 1 or two people on twitter that do not follow me...only cause they are interesting or funny! Have not had this happen on my blog and hope I don't..I love reading and chatting with the people I follow and who follow back :)

I'm not on blogger, but as for Twitter, I don't automatically follow someone just because they decide to follow me. Whatever criteria they use to follow me is their business; I only follow back if what I see on their updates interest me. So if I were following someone who then unfollowed me, if I still found them interesting, I would keep following. I just don't see following as an obligation.

And really, I haven't figured out yet why anyone follows me, unless they're hoping I'll follow them back. I only signed up for Twitter to keep track of some fellow bloggers, and about all we were using it for was to post when we had a new blog post...and that's still almost exclusively what I post. A lot of the posts I read on there make me wonder who thinks anyone else would be interested in such mundane details of their life. :-)

I always look at their site or twitter home page before I decide if I am going to follow them. If it is something that I have no interest in, then I do not follow them. I feel bad but it is hard enough to keep up with everyone I love following. 9 times out of 10 I follow the person.

I think the proper etiquette in response is to not respond. Meaning, if it's a blog that I like I will keep on reading. My BIL and his wife just deleted me from their blogroll but I'm still going to read their blog so I can keep up to date with what's going on with them.
