The weekly poll is showing that there's a lot of us bloggers that are thinking about putting ads on our blogs. So what's holding you back?

I never really understood the ad controversy. I'm neither for or against them although I admit that the huge flashing ads are a distraction. What's your take on advertisements: love 'em or hate 'em?

I don't love or hate ads. I've chosen not to put ads on my blogs because it doesn't fit my goals right now.
I agree with Melody!
I don't love them or hate them. I've been looking at some different blog templates that will allow me to fit ads in my blog. Until then, I'm fine with not having them on my blog right now.
I think a lot of them on one blog can look really tacky; and the best-looking blogs have few or none. But how does a blog with absolutely no ads -- like Orangette, which I like -- generate the kind of traffic/income/notoriety to earn the author a book contract?? Maybe it's just a matter of time....
Here's a related question: would any of us be willing to plug away at our blogs (or have you already) for three or four years, ad-less, waiting to earn money/recognition the slow way?
Good question, Nancy. I think if my goal was to make money by blogging, I don't think I'd have the patience to wait that long for recognition.
My blog is a big advertisement for me as a talent. If a company wants to advertise on one of my video shows, great, let's talk. But for now, the blog remains without ads. The business aspect of blogging bores me. I want to be the creative one, making my videos and writing. I don't want to think about the other aspects. Perhaps I need a business partner! THen maybe I'd have advertisers.

I've had just a few ads on my blog and they've generated a whole 12 cents. I think they're tacky, I often don't click on those belonging to other bloggers either. I don't get how some people can make so much money on them!
Every ad you see on my blog (banner ad that is) is an advertiser placement. I make a HUGE chunk of change from those.

I try to keep my clean and neat so they don't seem obstrusive to my readers. I really don't think people even pay that much attention to ads.
What's an advertiser placement? Do you mean advertisers have sought you out? How did they hear about you? Thanks ...
Yes, they came to me. How did they hear about me? I'm famous, doncha know!...LOL.

I do A LOT of networking and having 5 blogs gets my name out there I guess.
I do not mind ones that dont make sound. The second there is sound im closing down the page not turning off my volume. I am going to do ads from blog her in July! I just need another month of posting
I agree, Kelsey! There's a very popular blogger (25,000 readers!) who's a wonderful writer but she has a movie trailer on her sidebar that starts automatically. It's really distracting :(
I just switched my blog to wordpress and have my own domain, so I was considering adding advertising. But, not sure yet. I do have some small buttons on the side of my blog and some are mainly affiliates, but not sure how to offer space for sale? Any suggestions??
