How many posts a week should you do to keep readers coming back?

I have a favorite blog that I read-to me reading a good blog is like reading a chapter in a book. The only thing is, lately, I feel that she doesn't post that much and I've even started to forget to check for new posts. How many times do you post to keep your readers interested? Is it asking too much for at least 4 to 5 posts a week?

I just post when I can, which, when my life is very busy, can be as little as once a week, or when I have more time, every other day. It doesn't seem to affect my readership....my readers just come back whenever I have a new post.

I myself use Bloglines which tells me when a site has been updated. That way I don't have to keep checking. I think most of my readers use a similar feed reader as well. That saves a lot of time!
I don't think 4-5 posts a week is asking too much. I get frustrated when a blog I like to read doesn't have several posts a week. I don't miss a post, though, because I use a reader that checks for new posts on a regular basis. (I use Bloglines, but Google reader and Feedburner are both good readers, too.)
My blog is also topical, the topics aren't time-sensitive, and I have 11 posts published, 3 scheduled, and 59 that are on the waiting list. Some are mostly written but need photos to finish up, etc. Once I get all my 59 ideas done, then I'm not sure what I'm going to do... I'm sure I'll come up with more but possibly more slowly.

But my blog isn't about time -- it's meant to be more of a reference resource (notes about favorite children's books, toys and media) so I'll add to it whenever we discover something great. That may be infrequent, but we'll see.... I hope people read and subscribe anyway!
I am trying to gain traffic and become a fun site for lots of different people so, I try to post at least once a day. If I post a review I ALWAYS post something personal as well. I want to make sure people see my family and life, just as much as they do my reviews.

I've also been adding my family into my reviews, so that helps a lot, and makes it fun.
I wondered about that too. I was posting daily after NaBloPoMo, but since I've cut down for the kids' summer vacation, I'm noticing some of my long-time readers only come around once a week or so-- I'm not sure if it's because they're fed up coming around to the same post, or if their summer is as crazy as mine.
I try to post at least once a day, with 2-3 posts on some days, but its easier for me because of the nature of my blog. I love getting email wrapups every day from my favorite blogs, but I understand that not everyone has the time to post every day. I think 3-5 times a week is enough to keep readers interested.
As a blogger you can see inspiration all around you when you blog. There always something to write about (family, friends, kids, opinion on topics, how-to's, etc.) Obviously, as mothers we have mini disasters happen all around us so the frequency of our posts can vary. The important thing to remember is if you love to blog do it for yourself and if people like to read your post it's an added bonus. I suppose if your blog is for a personal business then there is a different standard for the amount of post, etc.
I shoot for 4 a week, sometimes it's harder to do. Time constraints, and sometimes I have nothing to say. Other days I struggle not to post 3 or 4 times a day. It varies.
I try to post two or three times a week...more if I can!
Well I'm going to sound very slack - but I only post once or twice a week. I just don't have the time to do it more often.

I guess I only have time to check out other's blogs at that sort of frequency as well, whereas if I was checking them everyday I may post in mine every day as well.
I try for every day - some days I have more to say so I say it!

I do find I get impatient if the blogs I read arent updated especially if something is happening and the person needs to update ;o)
Well, here's a different take on the situation. I'm experiencing something I WANT to blog about but can't. It's a career thing where the people making offers are reading the blog. It's also something a lawyer is handling, so it's a big legal minefield that can blow up any second and not in my favor. I'm out of my mind with worry and my readers are on the edges of their seats and yes, I'd love to discuss it. But I can't. AND it's all consuming, so when I sit to talk about other things, my mind goes back to the situation and I can't find the words to talk about everyday issues.

Sometimes life gets in the way of blogging. So when that happens, I ask my readers to be patient and let me work through this and hopefully we'll have something to celebrate in the coming weeks. And in that time I make a big effort to be better about commenting on their blogs so they know I haven't forgotten them, either.

Otherwise, I'm a three day a week blogger. Two written posts, one vlog, and a once a month video show. It's all I can do with three little kids and a work from home career.
