Connecting with PR firms?

I've been able to connect up with a lot of very cool small businesses, as well as some PR firms through other bloggers, but I've found that it is REALLY difficult for me to break into conversations with many PR firms.

I've gone to various PR sites and emailed them through their sites but I never hear anything...

I wondered if people had suggestions of the best way to get in touch with PR firms - what is the secret? I'm in Canada as well and I found it is even more challenging because I never hear anything when I contact Canadian PR firms unless I have a specific person I can contact.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Maggie,

I know that for me I contact the companies that I like directly. I usually surf the web looking for businesses that I know my readers would like and then I contact them with very specific information so that they know that I have looked at their products and that my readers would be very interested in learning more about them. I contact companies directly as well and then if they want to work with me they either work with me directly or send my information to their PR company, who then contacts me on their behalf. It just takes time!
