My daughter just turned 9, and over the weekend we threw her a party with her friends. The party venue charged over $250. The next day we celebrated with the grandparents. The dinner bill was over $100. Her actual birthday fell on a school day; we treated her to ice cream for around $20. I realize these costs add up fast!!

Next time, I'd like to celebrate without high fees. Can you please share your awesome cost-effective tips to celebrate a kids birthday party? Here are some of my ideas:

1. Make your own birthday cake instead of buying one.

2. Take advantage of restaurants where kids eat free to lower that final bill, or restaurants that offer free birthday giveaways for a special after-school birthday treat.
