Do you have a wordpress blog?

I have been blogging on blogger since 2004. In 2009 I started a less personal blog about Scandinavian Design and Fashion for kids here in the US. It had done pretty well and would like to take it to the next level. I am starting to feel like blogger is not flexible enough and am considering switching to wordpress.

So if you have a wordpress blog do you like it? What do you like about it/not like about it? Who do you use as a host? I'm thinking GoDaddy since that's where I have my domain. I would appreciate any feedback I can get:)

For me, I think it was small things. I didn't use them for very much. I had a few issues with troubleshooting not being able to help with an issue I had (it's been a while), They were more expensive than 1and1 that I use most of the time. I actually still have one domain with them that is to be transferred to someone else.

They seem to charge more, plus they tier domains based on what they consider popular. (That may have changed, but I seem to remember them doing that in the past)

It's always the small things that make or break something. If they can't carry through on small things, they most likely won't be great on big things either...

I like having a wordpress blog as it is mine and can't be shut down by blogger for example. I like the freedom and the ability to do what I want with it. i am with bluehost and have been happy with them.

Same here, I am a programmer, so I also love being able to tweak everything - but wordpress is great about not needing it in most cases.

Hi Sam,

I use Just Host and I LOVE them.

I used to use another hosting service for some of my old websites but after a while, I began to have problems and when I contacted customer service, it was always a nightmare.

I have never had an issue with Just Host, I use Wordpress.org through their hosting service and it's been great, it's very inexpensive, you can get free domain for life, their service is very personal and accommodating, unlimited emails, and I have three domains hosted under one account...all for the same price I would pay for just one domain. In other words, if you pay $2.95/month for one domain and end acquiring another domain, you could host both domains under that one account for $2.95. Feel free to contact me if you have questions!

There is so much more versatility in self hosting -- no rules or regulations about advertising, etc. and I love that.

Thanks for all the responses, I deffinetly have a lot to think about. Sounds like I should make the change. Now I only need to find the time to do it. I have mostly been happy with blogger, but as I get more in to it, I want more flexibility.

Sam, you won't know what to do with yourself once you switch! It can be a little bit confusing at first but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. I know HTML coding but the whole php thing with wordpress.org editing can be a bit confusing if you like to tweak a lot of things manually. There are a few things I need to fix on my site right now, I just need to find someone who can help me. I'll get there, though!
