Do you plan out your blog posts or are you a random blog poster?

I'm more of a random blog poster but would like to get in the habit of planning out my blog posts ahead of time. But I not really sure how to go about doing this. What strategies do you use when it comes to planning out blog posts?

I try to plan out my posts a bit, mostly so that I can have a mix of stuff. Some completed projects, some tutorials, some lists, some promotions... I don't want to go a whole week with just completed projects, no tutorials. I also try to mix it up a bit between different kinds of stuff... lately I've been doing a lot of sewing, so I like to toss in the occasional ModPodge or Paint project. :)

When I work on a blog "event," like Pocket Week, or my upcoming Pumpkin Week, I plan it all out. Bigtime. Spreadsheet and dry erase board telling me what needs to be done, and where I am at - if a project has been started, the photos edited, the post written...

I have a spreadsheet that I created, it basically looks like a calendar, but each date has several catagories: the name of the post, the type of post (tutorial, completed project, informative, giveaway, guest post, etc), the type of craft (baking, sewing, scrapbooking, etc) and what I'm doing to promote it (FB, Twitter, Stumble, submit to sites, etc).

Hope that helps! : )

Thanks! You have been really helpful. One more question, how to you use Stumble Upon? I don't really understand it.

To use Stumble Upon:
First, go to their site and then sign up.
Then (to make your life easier) go ahead and get the toolbar.
From then on out, whenever you're on a post you like (yours or someone else's), you click the "thumbs up" button up on the toolbar. Stumbleupon records the click. If you're the first person to "like" that page, it will ask you for some basic information (safe for work? Category? Short summary). Takes 1 minute to fill out.
Now, whenever someone has free time (not me.. sigh... I never have free time...) They can click on the "Stumble!" button on their toolbar, and StumbleUpon will show them a random site. Though, it is not completely random. Based on the interests that they told StumbleUpon when they first signed up, and based on the sites they've said they like and dislike, Stumble will hand-pick sites for them. It picks these sites based on those in their system... which is why you want to "like" your site, to get it into their system.

Also, I've noticed the more active I am on Stumble - Liking lots of stuff as I come across it (and not just my own), the more traffic my OWN site gets from Stumble. So, the more you "give" the more you "get" with this site. : )

Have fun stumbling! : )

I'm mostly a random poster because I post about my life as it goes along...but some posts are planned out, for example my 30 before 30 post I recently published was written earlier in the month and kinda put on hold for a while.
I'm a bit of both...I usually know what I want to post but don't write anything until the day I post it.
On the other hand, I like looking ahead to what coming up in my life, on the calendar as far as holidays etc. and plan my posts accordingly. For instance, the anniversary of my parents deaths was coming up and I spent two weeks writing that post, but the next post I wrote in just 5 minutes...
I like to plan ahead.
i sometimes plan and write down ideas when they come for posts but i also just like writing a little everyday and just post on whatever i am feeling at the moment.
I am a random type of blogger.
Hi Carla,

I do plan out my blog post for the week. Each week I spend one day writing out all of my ideas and then I take the ones that i like the best and write on those. I then schedule them all in my blogger dashboard and put it on autopilot to release an article a day. I recently started working on a series called Parenting your Parents it a 4 part series written by mother and edited by me. I basically will set to release on of these post each day for 4 days. It makes it easier to focus on coming in to the forums and getting to know other blogger while dedicating one or two days to creating ideas and then writing about them.

I'm mostly random but if I have a particular subject that I like to write about in detail, I usually plan it out.
Mine are more random. I was on facebook yesterday and someone said they came across a conversatio someone was having about "Why Does Love Hurt?" So.. Being a blogger and all, I hit the search engine and looked for the best answers. I don't like to just find answers and I don't like to fine the "same ol answers" I like to find ones that others haven't quite heard. I did a blog post about it and of course, sent it to facebook and let them know I expanded on it and posted my opinion! I have a huge notebook full of keywords that can lead to a post and also topics and words that I want to talk about when I dont have anything but mostly random.
Completely Random!!!! Like me!
