Hello,

Recently I had the revelation that Facebook is consuming my life in all the wrong ways:

As mothers looking to network and socialize with like-minded folks out
there, I encourage us to all really examine where we are spending our
time each day on the computer and make sure we are not commenting,
following, and friending for the sake of collecting virtual tokens.
Follow someone because you truly dig their blog and because you will
visit again. Comment because the post resonated with you. And make sure
you understand what is true networking versus what is building a
friendship. Determine what you want out of your blog and don't confuse
your actions. And more is not more. Weed out the clutter and build a
space with like-minded individuals that can relate, sympathize, and
contribute to the discussion. And don't visit that 100 list of blogs
for the sake of doing a copy-and-paste comment in hopes that they will
come visit you. If you maintain a high quality blog with things that
will add value to your readers' lives, then people will come.

That's very well said. I'm trying so hard to build up my blog and doing all the things I can to nab just a few readers. It's disappointing to compare my views per day to my comments per day. Makes me feel like I'm not very good at this blogging thing if that many people see my blog and have nothing to say about it. You know?
Hi Heather, your blog is great. You write about what's happening around you and your family, where to get the best buys or discounts and so on. And why do you do it? For bloggers to visit your blog and take an interest. They may or may not be a follower but they may still visit your blog to see what you have posted or blogging about even if they don't leave a comment. And I can see that you have over 100 followers. I have 12 but I don't care because my interest is in what I do and bring to the attention of parents...EDUCATION....making it FUN for the kids.

I blog about children's books and gifts because that’s where my interest is. I welcome people let them know what I blog about. If they take interest in visiting my blog it’s up to them. Just keep doing what you are doing. Because I don't leave a message doesn't mean am not reading your blog....LOL!

Artemis,

People do take interest in what others write some will become followers some will not. Just do what you do best write bloggers will read, comment if they want to or follow. Have a great day.
I totally agree, great post!
Heather,

Most people are lurkers. Up until recently I read so many blogs and never commented. But then I realized, hey I have to comment on other people's blogs if I want the same in return. The fact that they are reading your blog everyday tells you that they are interested. ;-)

i have found that for every unique 100 views i get a day, around 5 to 8 people will actually comment. pretty consistent rule of thumb.
Great post. I stopped getting on fb ages ago, its a huge waste of time and will go the way of myspace not too long from now. lol.
thank u. just trying to find and develop my voice.

Great post! I agree, more is not more, and quantity of comments and follows does not make quality friends and fellow bloggers. I try to follow those bloggers who I really want to read on a regular basis, and I reevaluate my list periodically if I find myself not reading their posts.

I mainly use facebook to keep in touch with friends and family, not as a "networking" tool, so I don't waste much time on it.
thank u! i think my facebook was just getting out of control with all the random friends mixed with real friends and family so instead of cleaning it up, i just threw the towel in.

I totally get where you're coming from! I could care less about Farmville, or what some woman who I last saw when we were in Kindergarten had for breakfast. Which is why I'm really careful about who I friend on Facebook. If I've never met you in person, we're not "friends." If I wouldn't take time to go have coffee with you, you're not my "friend." If you're not someone I would love to have over to my house... you are not my "friend."
My Friends list on Facebook stays between 100-120. If it goes over that, I weed people out. Yup, I systematically de-friend people who bug me, or who I no longer feel a desire to connect with.
I did finally give in and have a Facebook fan page for my blog... mostly so that I can update it and my mom and aunties can see that I've updated my blog... it is their version of a "Google Reader." : P
