Hello,

Recently I had the revelation that Facebook is consuming my life in all the wrong ways:

As mothers looking to network and socialize with like-minded folks out
there, I encourage us to all really examine where we are spending our
time each day on the computer and make sure we are not commenting,
following, and friending for the sake of collecting virtual tokens.
Follow someone because you truly dig their blog and because you will
visit again. Comment because the post resonated with you. And make sure
you understand what is true networking versus what is building a
friendship. Determine what you want out of your blog and don't confuse
your actions. And more is not more. Weed out the clutter and build a
space with like-minded individuals that can relate, sympathize, and
contribute to the discussion. And don't visit that 100 list of blogs
for the sake of doing a copy-and-paste comment in hopes that they will
come visit you. If you maintain a high quality blog with things that
will add value to your readers' lives, then people will come.

see people all have such different ideas of what FB friends mean to them. i was the opposite. i was friends with people i didnt know or care for. if i ever go back, i will do what u do and keep things real tight.

I totally get where you're coming from! I could care less about Farmville, or what some woman who I last saw when we were in Kindergarten had for breakfast. Which is why I'm really careful about who I friend on Facebook. If I've never met you in person, we're not "friends." If I wouldn't take time to go have coffee with you, you're not my "friend." If you're not someone I would love to have over to my house... you are not my "friend."
My Friends list on Facebook stays between 100-120. If it goes over that, I weed people out. Yup, I systematically de-friend people who bug me, or who I no longer feel a desire to connect with.
I did finally give in and have a Facebook fan page for my blog... mostly so that I can update it and my mom and aunties can see that I've updated my blog... it is their version of a "Google Reader." : P
Great advice!

I am the author of a new book: "Sick and Tired of Being Broke." My blog is for mom's who are ready to live a debt-free life.

I have made some really good friends that I never met. We take our friendship from facebook, forums etc into our daily lifes. We help each other develop our businesses and seek advice also. We just help each other out. People make not like facebook but it has grown my business.
