I need some tips from handmade product sellers!

Hey guys, I am new to blogging and I want to start selling baby products soon. They are handmade things like burp cloths, blankets, headbands, bibs, etc. They feature military fabric on one side. I want to set it up so people can pick which fabric they want (army, air force, marine, navy, etc). I need some tips from people that sell handmade items. Do you wait until people purchase the item to buy stuff to make it (fabric, etc.) Do you offer coupons? Have you had any luck offering discount codes for email sign ups? How long do you tell people to expect to receive your product? Pretty much any tips would help greatly!

I have found it is easier to make the items and then put them on a website. I have an Etsy store and I don't put anything on there or offer patterns until I get them done. You will see if you only make them after someone has ordered them that you will constantly be rushing to get things done and this way you can do it at a comfortable pace and be able to make sure your products are the quality that you want. Now, if you are doing baby items, you might want to talk to the local hospitals and OBGYN offices about offering Mommy Packages to their mommy's to be. That might help you get your name out there more.
