Just need to share my breaking news...I just switched my blog over to my own domain!  I had owned the domain for a few years (to make sure no one else took my blog name) but was a bit freaked out to switch it over.

Honestly, I thought I'd lose my bacon or cause armageddon or (shudder) crash my site.

But I did it!

Still using blogger as my platform but publishing on www.parentclub.ca

Has anyone else done this?  Do google rankings go down significantly?

p.s. if I'm on your blogroll - could you kindly switch the link...thanks

I have thought about switching....did you loose followers and subscribers? What if someone goes to your old blogspot link, does it redirect them to the new domain?
Congrats and welcome to the dark side (kidding!). :)
I switched to my own domain and all was fine EXCEPT, I previously had a 2 PR Rank and it plummeted to zero and never has gone back up. Furthermore, Google, who are THE PR Rank officials, provide me no help or answers as to why this is. Google infuriates me.
Like Denise, my only issue has been the PR. I also went to 0, but it has only been about 2 months, still I hear a lot of people are having this issue.

I also went to my own domain with blogger as my host. So now if someone types in savorthismoment.blogspot.com it automatically takes them to savorthismoment.com As I recall, it asks the questions in blogger when you set it up.

I haven't checked my PR, because I really haven't concerned myself with any of it yet. I would like to find out more about it, though.
I switched to a private domain and LOST my Google Ranking. I have been waiting 2 months for Google to find my new site, unfortunately and my traffic has doubled since changing so I wish they would hurry up! Google is honestly a pain in my butt! Other than that, it's been great!

I changed to a .com domain on 8/23 and I lost my PR as well as all my other analytic stats have had to restar from the new .com url I am a newbie all over again :( LOL
I was going to do this and thought with Christmas coming I'm not going to risk it. We had a great Christmas last yr on blogspot with plenty opportunities and as long as My traffic stays high and my ranking stays up I won't lose out on opportunties. BUT I will be switching after the holidays to a .com and hoping that my ranking will climb back up quickly before EASTER rolls around.

Try to remember all the places you left links to your blog if you were on ning sites or left review links and start changing them if you can. The more people you have link to your new site the faster google will notice you. or atleast I hope that is how it works.

good luck
Hooray! I loved making the switch.

Okay! I took the plunge! I'm now the very proud owner of www.fromtracie.com

I'm still using blogger...but with my new domain. I figured based on what y'all said that this way I have time to work on getting my pagerank back up while I'm saving up to make the big switch to self-hosted wordpress. Whew! (scary!)
I just did as well, and it's something I should have done ages ago. As a side note, it was much easier than I expected, so I really should have done it ages ago.

I am at least happy that I am in one official place now, the blogspot part was annoying (and I actually have blogged there since June *2007*, I really should have known better).
