Christina,

I would recommend these books: The Twits, George's Marvelous Medicine and the Fantastic Mr. Fox all written by Roald Dahl. These are shorter story chapter books he may enjoy. He might also like Gangsta Granny or Billionaire Boy by David Walliams or the How to Train Your Dragon series.

If you're interested in African-American books for boys you might want to look into:
1. The Ziggy and the Black Dinosaurs Clubhouse Mysteries books by Sharon Draper

2. The Julian (and Huey, and Gloria) books by Ann Cameron
