Too Many Requirements for Giveaways?

I'm curious as to how you decide what is mandatory for someone to enter your giveaway?

I've seen some bloggers who require folks to 'like' facebook pages, tweet, follow on GFC (google friend connect), AND leave a comment for a prize. Do you think that's fair? Just curious.

I think it becomes confusing and too much. I think people should only be required to leave one comment. However, they should be allowed the option of doing more (I.e liking on FB) to have a greater chance of winning.

My mandatory entries are always super simple, because not everyone has a google friend account, or wants to like random pages on facebook, or uses twitter. I love entering giveaways, and before I started really blogging, I would leave a giveaway immediately if it required me to do anything beyond leave a comment. Now, I do it all, because half the time I'm already following the person, and the other half of the time I know they're just trying to boost their counts like I am. But I want to make sure I have a simple option for those who are more like I used to be.

I am hosting a giveaway, and anyone entering can do either of them. Sure the more they do the more entries they get but that is their choice. Giveaways should never feel like a chore. I just wrote an article about how to run an effective giveaway.

When I host a giveaway readers only have to comment to enter. Jumping though hoops is annoying ( & in some states certain random drawing entry "requirements" are illegal)

Usually, if there are these many requirements for a giveaway I don't enter. But if I have to leave a comment and then have the OPTION for extra entries by doing more I will enter.

I recently came acroos a giveaway that had a 5 step MANDATORY entry. It consisted of GFC follow, like on FB, post on FB and a couple other things. Then on top of that - the winner had to pay shipping!

I was appalled at the shipping - they had it on several of their giveaways...giveaways from companies I've seen sponsor other places w/o shipping fees. I won't go back to that site!

It's fine to count all those activities as one entry. So if you tweet, put it on your Facebook page, follow on GFC and comment, you could get 4 entries.

What I don't like are contests that make you do a ton of work, like submitting a video. Usually big brands do this because it's a way to garner free content for their website.

Most times the giveaways are simple enough to enter but when you get to the ones that require things like Google Connect follows to enter, I'm out. I make it simple when I do them. One comment as the required entry and MAYBE 2 or 3 other options at the most.

Whatever options you have on your giveaway, make it where they can choose. I don't really care what people do on mine as along as they choose one.

I think it's completely up to the blogger if it's a personal giveaway and it's up to the sponsor if it's a sponsored giveaway. That being said, I don't tend to enter giveaways that require me to jump through too many hoops. I don't mind leaving a comment, tweeting, following, or visiting a web site to see which of their products I like. I believe a separate entry should be given for each thing, and that is how I tend to run my giveaways. But, it's the blogger's choice on how to run his or her own giveaway. We don't have to enter. Perhaps she's trying to promote herself. That might be why she requires a tweet or follow. If you don't like the entry requirements, you don't have to enter that giveaway. It's as easy as a click away.
