I'm trying to increase my blog traffic.  What is the best way to do it? Love to hear some tips from seasoned bloggers!

The best way I've found - is to try lots of things!

- Tag your blog in Delicious and Stumble
- Link your blog to other blogs in their linky parties or blog carnivals
- Comment on other blogs - people read the comments and click on your blog
- Post your blog in forums (like here in MBC)
- Promote your blog posts on Twitter and Facebook
- Consider guest posting or blog-swapping to get exposure to another blog's followers
- Giveaways are another way to increase traffic
- Hosting your own linky party is another way to increase traffic

I have a whole post on my blog on how to promote a craft blog, but many of the suggestions work for other blogs too. You can check it out here:

Thanks so much Carolina! Do you have any tips for Stumble? I haven't check out Delicious yet but I can't figure how to tag my blog on Stumble.

The easiest is to download the StumbleUpon Add-on or Plug-in for your browser (I use FireFox, so I've got that one). Then, it will "exist" at the top of your browser page. Whenever you find a site you like, you can click on the "thumbs up" button. If you're the first to like a particular page, it will ask you to put the page into a category, and then provide a brief summary. If someone else has already done this, it will just record your thumbs up click, and add it to your list of likes.

If you tell it what kinds of things you like, and as you add pages you've liked, it will "learn" what you like to read, and you can press on the "Stumble" button to find other similar content across the web. :)

I would recommend any and all of the things that Caroline suggested. I did not even know about Delicious... I'll have to check that out. Facebook helps a lot as does Twitter. Giveaways are better if you already have a good amount of traffic and it has to be something that people really want. Good Luck! We're all trying to increase traffic aren't we?
Hi Becky

I agree with everyone here. Carolina's list to follow is excellent, and you should try to have it all set up to do 'automatically' as much as you can.

For instance, you can have your FB and Twitter automatically set up that a 'shout out' goes out each time you post!

If you also have a really compelling topic, I have my site http://www.homepartyplanningbusiness.com set up so that a topic gets sent out several times. I do this through hootsuite.com which is a FREE service. For example, at the beginning of summer I wrote about "3 tips for Low Cost Doorprizes" (we assist ladies in any home direct sales...avon, tupperware, pampered chef) and throughout July and August I've 'auto' set up tweets to both FB & Twitter & LinkedIn a couple of times per week.
You could do the same on parenting tips!!!!

I too, use and LOVE stumble....and STUMBLE really loves it when YOU stumble other sites. So, I have a list of about 10-15 other momblogger sites that I enjoy their posts...and usually give them a stumble once/week as well.

Hope that helps

I'm confused about Stumble. Does it cost money to add your blog? I have signed up, but I cannot figure it out.

Once you've signed up for Stumble, whenever you find a page you like (including your own posts), you "like" it in stumble. The easiest way to do this is to add the Stumble toolbar to your browser. Then, whenever you're on a "nifty" webpage, you click on the Thumbs Up button. If you're the first to click the thumbs up button, it will pop up saying that you've got a discovery... and it will ask if the site is safe for work (no nudity, profanity, etc), and what category (Mine is home ->craft). Then you type in a short description, and submit it.

When you "stumble" your own site, you want to make sure you click the thumbs up button not just on your own homepage, but on the individual posts (click on the title of the post so just the post comes up... the URL at the top of the page will change to something longer than just your blog's address).

I've heard (but not verified) that Stumble gives your "likes" more weight if you also "like" blogs other than your own. No idea if this is true or not, but I think that it is a great idea to give your favorite blogs some "stumble love." : )

Have fun!

I'm not real versed on the Delicious and Stumbled or the SEO. I just like talking to a variety of bloggers.

Good luck!
