Attachment Mamas

This is a group for all the proud attachment parents. The ones that sleep with their baby, carry their baby or wear them in sling, for the moms that do not practice cry-it-out, do not spank and take a loving, gentle and natural course to parenting.

Not sure what this 'Attachment Parenting' thing is?
Before I gave birth to my baby girl I had never heard of Attachment Parenting. I just knew, after her birth, that the way I wanted to raise her, the way that felt natural and 'right' was not the way others were telling me to raise her. I think one day I googled 'holding your baby' or something similar and came upon a series of AP links.

A light went off, a smile came to my face. I thought, 'I am not alone. I am not wrong. There are others that think and feel as I do.' It was a big moment for me, seeing the way I felt coming out of the mouths of others.
Here are the 8 Principles of Attachment Parenting, as listed from API (Attachment Parenting International) click on them for the full explanation:

  1. Prepare for Pregnancy, Birth, and Parenting
  2. Feed with Love and Respect
  3. Respond with Sensitivity
  4. Use Nurturing Touch
  5. Ensure Safe Sleep, Physically and Emotionally
  6. Provide Consistent and Loving Care
  7. Practice Positive Discipline
  8. Strive for Balance in Personal and Family Life

This is a very good link to the Attachment Parenting International Blog; API Speaks, which explains a lot more and includes informative links to articles/blogs by parents and experts alike that pratice and/or encourage APing.

Anyone else have a good link I should be posting here that explains the dynamics of APing? Send me a message on my profile (or just post it here, if you would rather) and I will put it up here!

Hi ladies, I tried attachment parenting with my first and all thought a lot of it hasn't worked (he doesn't like being worn too much for example) I still try my best. I talk about gentle parenting and related subject on my blog More Caring World. I also talk abut green living as well.

I would love to increase my readership as well. I am finding it a bit difficult. I do like coming on to the site and reading other blogs.  I have found some great blogs. I normally keep track of the blogs that I join and try to comment on them at least once every other week until I just never hear from them.  I love having tons of blogs to read and respond too.

It's like you took the words out of my mouth.  20 months ago I started doing what came naturally to me when Lilly was born despite what others said.  I didn't know that was a "thing" until my mom referred to it as "that attachment parenting thing you do".  Huh?  That was the first time it occurred to me that I was doing things differently.  :-)

Hi everyone, I just found this group, and I hope I'll be welcome here… I follow AP guidelines as possible.  For example, I cosleep, still wear my 14 month old, no crying it out, etc.  Some decisions were taken out of my hands though, as my son was born early, and with a rare disease that only allowed me to breastfeed for one week (until they got his diagnosis right) - he has a very strict low potassium diet, and the potassium I ate going to him would have been dire.  We spent over 3 months in the NICU, so it's been a rough road.  AP has helped heal the bond we weren't able to form after an emergency c-section, and not seeing him for HOURS after the birth, and then of course going home without him...

Hello! New to MBC and happy to be here! I'm one that's semi-crunchy, but don't swallow the whole pill. LOL We breastfeed (my twins will be 2yo in Septmeber and still going strong), cloth diaper, co-sleep, baby wear (as infants), and probably more. I'm frugal-minded and a lot of my parenting decisions are based on that, and Christian so everything I do I try to filter through God's Word. Anyway. Thought I'd post a quick intro. :) Thanks for having me!
