Margot's Magic Carpet - WIN my new mid-grade book for BOYS!http://perfectmagiccarpet.blogspot.com/
I love to write about life and food. If anyone wants to trade a critique I would love some advice and will give some in return.
Looking forward to reading everyone's work and learning from you as well!
Sorry I've practically fallen off the MBC map. Don't know about you, but I have a really hard time keeping all my balls in the air. Anyway, I've been writing -- still at Partly Sunny, Chance of Rain. Decent stuff, I think. Been going through a couple of rough patches (who hasn't). And I've been posting other moms' stories on World's Worst Moms (which has been a lot of fun and sometimes even cathartic). Please stop by. I'd love to hear what you have to say.
Christine, I love hearing words like that!!
Don't forget to try for a FREE copy of my mid-grade adventure for tomboys and boys - "Taconi and Claude - Double Trouble"Just READ my short story "tease" here: http://taconiclaude.blogspot.com/and leave a comment.
You can also read a sample chapter of my book: http://taconisample.blogspot.com/Just to see if it fits your kid's.
Patricia, I took a quick look at your writing and the stories seem interesting. However for kids with reading problems, short picture books that are fun but VERY simple usually get their interest. The illustrations back up the text and help kids remember the words. 500 words tops!!
Their attention span at that age is short anyway, and with ADHD etc it is even shorter. Themes that bring in their interests are also good to use - trucks, horses, dogs, baseball etc. Use whatever they are keen to do or play with as your simple plot. Short, easy to grasp words and sentences work best.
I would be happy to critique a page of one story if you think that would be helpful.
Book signings can be fun. It is always good to meet your readers.
11 books so far Tonya: all for children and most are in rhyme. My kids had some minor reading problems, so I try to write books that tempt kids to read - especially boys. One picture book helps kids with dyslexia, and their parents. Another is for kids who are dealing with BIG changes in their lives - both these have helpful parent/teacher guides.
Then I have a rhyming series of eBooks that tell about animals from the US and Australia - I am originally from Australia
My latest is a mid-grade adventure for boys. It is set on a cattle station in the Aussie outback. Sure to tempt reluctant readers. You can see them all here, link to a sample page or reviews. : http://perfectmagiccarpet.blogspot.com/
Margot's Magic Carpet - WIN a mid-grade book for your BOY!
Huge congrats Tonya. Nothing beats the thrill you get when your first book is published - YEA!!
