I am a SAHM, age 42 with two kids ages 19 and 15. One is about to graduate and go into the military. I love to read and am currently going to college. My husband is a retired SGM of the Army and is currently a contractor in Iraq (his 2nd tour). I have been happily married for 21 years and I just adore my husband, he is my best friend. We are getting ready to move to Florida, I can't wait. I have 2 dogs, Cassidy (husky) and Elliott (Pom Pom). I adopted both. I

Hi there from The Girlz Korner in upstate New York where you'll find light, witty and rather entertaining articles on every topic imaginable from The Little Black Dress to Making Whoopie. So if you get a chance to kick back and exhale, if only for a brief moment ... come on over and see me some time.

St. Augustine is a pretty area. My husband thought about doing some contract work overseas as well - the money seems really good. But he is tired of being away from the family. He joined the Army Reserves when he was 17 and was a lab tech. After he graduated from college, he joined the Navy, and I met him when he started flight school in Pensacola. He flew helicopters most of his tours but also went to Iraq and did a lot of ship deployments. I think there is a military wives group here on MBC and other sites I am a member of. They are scattered on the net I guess, but I don't know of one for retired spouses. I have actually been wondering if there needs to be more support for us MilVetSpouses (that's what I've started calling myself), as I've had contact with a few who are a little lost when it all comes to an end. If you don't retire near a base, it seems like it might be a little hard at times. We are going to be about a 2 hour drive from Jacksonville when we get down to Florida at the end of the month. I plan to drive over every once in a while to have a big commissary/exchange shopping trip. And maybe just breathe in some military base air ;) As much as I am dying to settle down in one place, I'm gonna miss the military life some -the support, the other spouses, job security, the travelling, etc.

I saw your comments in the Moms with Teens page and see that we have some in common. My husband just retired from the military after 27 years in the Army and Navy. We are moving back to our homeland of Florida, near Gainesville (we start packing out next week). We have 2 boys; oldest turns 17 this week and youngest is 12. Our daughter is 14. The moving and travelling has been great, but I think our kids have had enough. My oldest will start his senior year in his 3rd high school next year. They really have been troopers through it all, but I'm also glad to be settling down finally.

What area of Florida are you moving to? Best of luck to you.
