Life can be hectic sometimes. It can sweep you up and make you forget about all the small beautiful things around you.

With that in mind, I have a gift for you today. Or for the day when you will need a little encouragement.

We all need to be reminded more to breathe deeply and to take a moment to relax. Here is an easy (and pretty) way to remind ourselves more often that everything is going to be all right.

Mommy Brain - Bigger, Smarter, Stronger?

Posted on December 14, 2015 at 2:01pm 0 Comments

Soon after I found out I was pregnant with my little guy, my IQ promptly dropped 20 points. At least, that’s my approximation and I’m sticking with it (because, ahem, I didn’t have to courage to actually measure this). I think I could hear my estranged IQ points crashing on the floor.…

Hi Irina! I totally understand the time commitment overload, I feel it too, everyday! My best advice is to find something that will help your kiddo to entertain themselves and let them explore that. At first I was only working 1-2 hours/day, and I've slowly been building up to a full time schedule. As Charlotte grows, she finds new things every day that entertain her, so I give her all the time she wants to explore and soak in those things. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't chasing her down every 3 minutes to pull her away from something that she's not supposed to be playing with, but multitasking becomes a second nature of sorts. We spend a lot of time with her crawling over my legs or snuggling in my lap while I sit on the floor with my laptop on the couch as I work. I think independent play time is very important, as I don't want her growing up being completely dependent on having someone there to entertain her, so we spend 2-3 hours/day of her in her bouncer/in her crib/crawling around a room (with supervision) and playing with interactive toys. I work through naptime and at night once my husband is home to help watch after her. Additionally, (and perhaps most importantly) I have found very flexible bosses, who are more than willing to allow me to work flexible hours so if Charlotte has a particularly fussy day, I work less, but if she's having an extraordinarily content day, I can put in more hours. It's a balancing act, and at times a very overwhelming one, but it's totally worth it. I'll definitely be posting more about it so stay tuned!!
